A nurse and abandoned children are on the grounds of an institution. At the home of an alcoholic the man is away at the tavern. A woman is sitting on a bed sewing. A toddler is on the floor with arms raised and mouth opened. Another child is on a chair looking out the window, wearing a only shirt. A third child is dragging a bottle on a string. Through the wall is an image of a shadow of a woman with a child on her back and one by her side walking away.
