Subject: The scene is an ornate bedroom. The invalid is propped up in bed. He holds a scroll, while two men hover over him. Three other men, in wigs and well-dressed, stand at the foot of the bed. At the far left, another man is seen entering the room through a half-opened door. A head, perhaps that of a woman, emerges from the folds of the bed canopy. Dialog bubbles appear above each of the people in the print. The invalid discusses a legal suit; the two men hovering over the invalid discuss fees and urge him to sell belongings; the three men at the foot of the bed discuss remedies; the person emerging from the folds of the canopy asks the man entering the room if he has brought the blood for which they sent; and the man in the doorway brings news of the suit.
