Physical Description:
1 photomechanical print (poster) : col. ; 60 x 40 cm.
Image Description:
The painting shows a serpent encircling the stem of a large flowering plant. The serpent is outlined in black with a brown, red, and black body. The stem of the plant is in browns and yellow and ends with a red circle outlined in yellow and black. The sun is off to the side, a single yellow circle with a black design on it. The remainder of the painting is in blues and greens with splashes of black representing the landscape, and the sky is a mixture of blues, pinks, and white.
Note (General):
One of a series of twelve paintings "after the manner of" twelve artists. The posters are part of what is referred to by the accompanying literature as a "caduceus" series by Roussel Laboratories in France. The images really represent the staff of Aesculapius (one serpent encircling the staff)as opposed to a caduceus (two serpents encircling the staff, coming from opposite directions). The posters have numbers on the back ranging from 147 to 158, this being no. 153.
