Subject: The painting shows a serpent encircling the stem of a plant. The entire painting is done in small brush strokes of different colors (pointilism). The snake is in orange, red, blue, and yellow brush strokes. The remainder of the painting uses yellows and oranges for the ground, and blues and greens in varying shades for the landscape and sky. The plant has a green stem and the flower is a ball of yellows, reds, and oranges.

One of a series of twelve paintings "after the manner of" twelve artists. The posters are part of what is referred to by the accompanying literature as a "caduceus" series by Roussel Laboratories in France. The images really represent the staff of Aesculapius (one serpent encircling the staff) as opposed to a caduceus (two serpents encircling the staff, coming from opposite directions). The posters have numbers on the back ranging from 147 to 158, this being no. 158.
