Two years after independance there are only two congolese doctors in the congo and the country's medical services are temporarily entrusted to international teams. WHO granted fellowships to former "assistants medicaux" to complete their studies and return to the Congo as full medical doctors. 108 of them are now following courses at 5 French universitites. Martin Tshishimbi, 30, was a medical assitant in North Kasai for 3 years after 6 years of study in Leopoldville. He is now in Lyons (France) with his family as a 5th-year medical student.
